KIND: Calla has a big heart and will go out of her way to help another person, even if they're someone she doesn't know or might have been unkind to her in the past. She wants to leave this world a better place and feels that being kind-hearted and open to others is how to do go about doing so. She has a knack of being able to see the good in all people, even those that try especially hard to hide it. Her compassion is felt deeply.
FIERY TEMPER: Living up to the redheaded stereotype, Calla has a temper on her. It can take a lot to push her into actually losing her temper, but a few surefire ways to get her there are bullying or hurting one of her loved ones. Though she can occasionally lose her temper over smaller indiscretions, she is quick to forgive those who deserve it, giving them second chances.
PASSIONATE: Perhaps going along with her temper, Calla feels all things with great passion. If she has a spark of interest or puts her mind toward something, she pursues it relentlessly. She gives 110% to everything in her life, from caring for her family and friends to decorating her classroom. It's her passion that first got Jahan's attention, after he saw her debating politics at a party.
INTELLIGENT: Though Calla worked very hard to have high grades throughout school, she didn't have to work as hard as some. She's naturally clever and it served her well, both with learning new skills and having to memorize dates. It often meant that she was tutoring her peers, which was what led her to wanting to become a teacher in the first place.
STUBBORN: Once Calla makes up her mind about something, it's rather difficult to make her change it. Though she's open-minded enough to entertain the possibility of being wrong or someone having a different opinion than her own, it can take her some time to actually accept it. A perfect example would be her relationship with Jahan, which started out with her having zero interest to eventually turn into marriage and parenthood.
OPTIMISTIC: Though she is a realist in some ways, overall Calla has an optimistic view on the world around her. She seeks out the best in others and firmly believes that everyone has the ability to be great. Though the world can be scary, she knows there are good and beautiful things in it, if you're only willing to be open to them.
David Adams met June Foster when she came into Adams Floral in seach of a part-time job. The only son to the owner of what was also the only flower shop in Dunhaven, he just happened to be working the counter that afternoon while his parents were out of the shop. The shop was mostly staffed by family -- David himself and a handful of cousins -- and he knew his father had intended on keeping it that way... but that didn't stop him from simply offering the pretty young woman a job after a few questions, not even bothering with an interview or application. It took some explaining when his parents came back for David to not only tell them what happened, but also get them to allow June to actually be employed, but in the end they relented. They were expanding, after all, and could use the extra hands. David managed to work alongside June as only a coworker for about a month before he broke down and asked her to lunch. The rest, as they say, was history. They were married two years later and Adams Floral turned back into a family business.
Not long after getting married, David and June started trying for a family. Both of them had visions of a large family with all sorts of kids at first, but they soon changed their tune when they had two girls only a year apart, Violet and Calla. When the girls were still young, David's parents decided that it was time for them to retire, specifically to Florida, and left the flower shop to him. With their blessing, he renamed the shop Flower Girls, named for his daughters and their particularly floral names, and expanded the staff to more than just family members. He took over most of the business side of things, while June handled the arrangements, and the entire family moved into the home above the shop, the very same that David had grown up in.
Calla was a smart and inquisitive girl, something that her parents recognized early on. Given how close they were in age, she and Violet were one another's closest confidante and first choice in playmate, but it didn't take long for a little sibling rivalry to crop up. For Calla, she couldn't help but envy her older sister's blonde hair and easy confidence; her own short stature, bright red hair, and abundance of freckles made her feel as though she stuck out like a sore thumb. Violet, on the other hand, was jealous of Calla's intelligence and just how much their parents praised her for it; her own grades in school, weren't terrible, but weren't her sister's consistently above average. Despite their differences and perceived flaws, they were close throughout their childhood and into high school. During her early years, Calla relied a great deal upon her sister for social interaction, but as she got older and her self esteem and confidence grew, she was more apt to seeking friendships outside of her sister's sphere. It was something else that didn't sit well with Violet as she disliked the competition that these new friends presented for Calla's attention.
Calla only had one year of school without Violet, who graduated and commuted to a college in a nearby city after not getting into University of Dunhaven. The denial into the school had smarted; despite her struggling academics, Violet had a number of activities that she hoped would bolster her transcript. It smarted even more when Calla was not only accepted, but her academic excellence granted her a full scholarship to the private school. Violet had been hoping that her sister might follow in her footsteps, allowing the two of them to get an apartment together in the city, but this dashed her plans -- plans that she had thought Calla was set on as well. When Calla told her that she was going to take the offer to the university closer to home, her sister didn't take the news well. Her attitude hardened even more after she applied for transfer and was denied yet again. Tensions rose at home until the sisters had a particularly bad argument over it all one evening when they were supposed to be helping in the flower shop. The next week, Violet moved out to move into an apartment in the city with a few of her school friends. It was the start of a fracture between the sisters. While they still see one another at family events and occasionally meet up for brunch, their relationship never returned to the closeness that it once had been, something that Calla struggles with.
Calla graduated from the local high school in Dunhaven as valedictorian and moved into the dorms that fall at the university. She wasn't far from home, but it was important to her to get a full college experience rather than live at home with her parents. After taking her time at first before choosing her major, in the end deciding on English with the intent to teach, which was a bit inevitable to her. She had always been one of those kids that answered the question of "What do you want to be when you grow up?" with teacher and her love for kids had been well known to anyone that took advantage of her babysitting services as a teenager. She graduated with her degree summa cum laude and found herself overwhelmingly lucky with one of the teachers at Dunhaven High School retiring and giving her a position to apply for. She was offered the position and she accepted it without hesitation. Though she could have easily taken her degree and taught anywhere else, she liked the idea of staying near her parents, so she could help with the flower shop.
Calla initially met Jahan Puri while they were still in high school and she instantly disliked him. As a local to Dunhaven, she couldn't help but have a bit of a distaste for the boys and girls that attended the private schools in the town; though she normally gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and could see the good in anyone, she'd had one too many bad interactions with one of the private school kids to want to associate with him. When they first met at a party being thrown by mutual acquaintances, he joined in on a conversation that she was having about politics -- and she immediately shut him down, assuming that he was like any of the other Aurelius guys she'd met in the past. It wasn't the last time they would see one another, though, and it became clear to Calla and more or less anyone that knew the two of them that he was interested in her, but she wasn't having any of it. That all changed come college. Being in a new setting combined with some emotional maturity on her side (as well as Jahan's) found Calla appreciating him in a way she hadn't anticipated. After having a couple of classes together their freshman year, they became friends. After a few months of friendship, she found herself suddenly open to a relationship. After that was said and done, she couldn't help wondering what in the hell she had been thinking when she first met him, while also knowing that they both needed time before they could come together like they did.
The summer after finishing their degrees (first degree, in regards to Calla), the two of them were married in what was meant to be a smaller wedding but soon turned into something half the town was invited to, in particular thanks to Calla's mother. It all worked out in the end, the bride happily said, especially since she ended up married by the end of the day and that's all she was really concerned with. After a trip away for their honeymoon, Calla spent the rest of the summer preparing to return to school, both to teach at the high school and to pursue her Master's degree in Applied English Linguistics. It made for a lot of schedule juggling and late nights, but she managed -- and just in time as she graduated with that degree while two months pregnant. Their daughter, Dahlia, was born late in the night of Thanksgiving of 2016, making for a memorable get-together with their families.

∇ ANNIE SCOTT.Best Friend. Calla doesn't remember a time in her life without Annie in her life and, frankly, she doesn't want to. They've known one another since they were very young and are pretty inseparable.
∇ JAHAN PURI.Husband. Despite Calla writing him off when they first met in high school as just another annoying Aurelius guy, their re-connection in college left them first friends, then more than. She stands by that he was obnoxious when they first met, but now she says it with a great deal of affection.
∇ VIOLET ADAMS.Sister. Reflecting Lily and Petunia's relationship, Calla and Violet have a difficult relationship with one another. They were close when they were children, but Violet was often jealous of Calla's effortless grades (while Calla was sometimes jealous of Violet's popularity and social ease). When Calla made the decision to attend the University of Dunhaven, rather than go to the city with her sister for college as they'd promised, their relationship took a turn. They are on speaking terms for the sake of their parents, but they don't see one another as frequently as they used to. (She could actually be Petunia or she could be someone else fitting into the role.)
